Abusers choose to behave violently to get what they want and gain control. Their behaviour may originate from a sense of entitlement which is often supported by sexist, racist, homophobic and other discriminatory attitudes.

STOP THE VIOLENCE INC., was founded in 1998 as a local non-profit organization. The only domestic violence program that provides all services free of charge.

SERVICES WE OFFER Starting in October 2008 (for clients ONLY)
1. GROUP/ PEER SESSIONS: You speak to a group of people that are in a similar situation or just come and listen to others share their stories.
2. ONE ON ONE SESSIONS: You speak to someone who has been through a similar situation. Speak with a survivor of domestic violence. A friendly ear to just talk things out.
3. POSSIBLY HELP WITH LEGAL FEES for your divorce, mediation or seperation.
4. HELP WITH FOOD & CLOTHING.
5. RESUME WRITING: skills to find employment & provide leads to employers
6. A FRIEND TO SIT WITH YOU. When you go to court or the police station to file reports, someone is with you.
7. SOCIAL EVENTS: Events free of charge to get you out and socializing.
8. LEARN HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND NOT TO BE A VICTIM.
9. KNOW THE FACTS: What is abuse, its cycles and how to leave the situation.
10. SELF ESTEEM: Learn what you can do to feel better about your self.

Talks include control issues, things to do for anger, substance abuse, alcohol abuse, God in our lives, how to handle set backs, previous trauma, abortion, single parents, children, motherhood, fatherhood, what society expects, money management, sibling rivalry, abuse prevention, what role our parents played
when our life has lost all control, monthly goals, yearly goals, career goals, loneliness, feelings and how we cope, taking life one day at a time, parenting skills and crisis intervention
What we offer and how we do it:
We have events, that are open to the public, with guest speakers, community members and peer groups that inform on father's and mother’s rights and custody issues with children.
